  • Anyone who has attended the QFD Institute's QFD Black Belt® Certificate Course in the past.
  • Especially those who earned a Provisional QFD Black Belt® before September 2008.

Many new advancements have been made in QFD over the last few years. If it has been more than two years since you attended the QFD Black Belt® Course, we strongly recommend attending this refresher course this year.

Created in response to students' request to help keep the momentum going,
QFD Black Belt® UPDATE Course is a 1-day, semi-private continuing education exclusively for those who have attended the QFD Institute's QFD Black Belt® Course in the past.
It offers you an opportunity to bring up to date and enhance the QFD knowledge and skills learned in your previous courses. You may bring your QFD deployment samples for critique and coaching, or send your questions in advance.
Attendees of this Course will receive the latest release of both QFD Green Belt® and QFD Black Belt® training manuals and templates plus a 2-year extension of the provisional Black Belt status.

Your registration also includes the 2-day International Symposium on QFD (9/24 - 9/25) and a networking recept
ion. This course constitutes a Continuing Education Unit of 1.0 credit point.

Course Description

Who is eligible to attend (prerequisites)
  • QFD Black Belts® who have achieved full status.
  • Provisional QFD Black Belt® who graduated from any QFD Institute's QFD Black Belt® Course.
Planned for this QFD Black Belt® Update Course are the following topics (*New 2006-2010):
  • Improved algorithms for defining Customer Needs (Demanded Quality) for "new-to-world" products and services;
  • New Gemba Analysis tools;
  • Incorporating Blitz QFD® into Dr. Akao's Comprehensive QFD to speed up the process;
  • Replacement of ordinal scale calculations with ratio scale calculations of customer needs priorities, sales point, competitive benchmarking, and matrix relationship weights to improve the meaningfulness and accuracy of QFD in a Six Sigma world;
  • How to expertly link QFD with Design for Six Sigma (DFSS)*;
  • Lifestyle Deployment with Kansei Engineering*;
  • Integration of latest Kano methods*;
  • Enhancing Customer Need Hierarchy Diagram with measures, targets, and Kano categories*;
  • Using Customer Voice Table with specification documents*;
  • Introduction to General Theory of Innovation (GTI), a next generation TRIZ-evolved business innovation method for general business management*; and
  • Speed Deployment
Other topics may be added at the discretion of the instructor or at the request of students.
Learning Outcomes and Benefits
This course will introduce you to the latest enhancements to the QFD process as taught in recent QFD Black Belt® courses and the most up-to-date QFD tools and methods, in addition to any review that you may wish to have.  CEU credits: 1.0 point.
  • Bring up to date and enhance your QFD knowledge and skills learned in your earlier course.
  • Get additional coaching. You might have encountered questions since attending the previous course. This is a good opportunity to get additional help in completing the assignment toward earning your Full Status QFD Black Belt®.
  • Keep yourself up to date on the latest advancements in QFD and new-to-world concepts that the QFD Institute brings about through its on-going research. Get informed on what other countries are doing with QFD and how your business might draw on Modern QFD to create a competitive edge.
  • Your Provisional Status had expired if you attended the QFD Black Belt® Course before September 2008 and did not complete the Full Status Review. By attending this Update course, you will get the Provisional Status reinstated and extended until September 27, 2012.
Attendees of this Update Course will receive both the latest release of the QFD Green Belt® and QFD Black Belt® training materials (approx. 1,200 pages) and QFD software templates (v. 2010).
What to Bring
  1. Your own laptop computer with a CD drive, containing MS Excel, MS Word, and Adobe Acrobat
  2. Marketing and technical data for a small project or a part of a project that you are currently working on or plan to work on in the future; and
  3. Deployment samples that you have created on your own, if you wish their work critiqued.
Students may also submit ahead of time a list of questions and review topics they wish to have covered.
Textbooks and Materials
  • The latest Modern QFD templates on CD (ver. 2010); and
  • The latest edition of both QFD Green Belt® and QFD Black Belt® training materials (1,200+ pages).
The latest QFD Green Belt® PowerPoint files will also be available for separate purchase for full status QFD Black Belts® who ho have completed the "How to train QFD Green Belts" portion of their training.

The above fees include your copy of the latest release of 2010 QFD Black Belt® as well as QFD Green Belt® training manuals, the latest Modern QFD templates, your admission to the 2-day Symposium (9/24 - 9/25), a copy of the symposium proceedings and QFD Student Resource Pack CD, Networking Reception (9/25), and continental breakfast / lunch / coffee breaks on 9/24–9/26.

The QFDI rate is $139 per room per night plus taxes (standard room, single or double occupancy). This rate is effective for stays from Sept. 19  through Oct. 3, subject to availability.
