Ahmady, Ali

An Efficient Customer Group Selection for Quality Function Deployment

Mr. Ali Ahmady is a PhD candidate in Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at Wichita State University in Kansas USA. He received both his BS and MS degrees in Industrial Engineering from Iran University of Science and Technology and Isfahan University of Technology, Iran, respectively. For over 12 years, Mr. Ahmady has been trainer, consultant, director, faculty member, and researcher in quality systems, especially in customer oriented product development approaches such as QFD and Kansei engineering. He is currently working on his PhD dissertation in which he proposed an approach to develop design rules for products based upon the subjective impression of potential multiple users. This approach is being applied to a specific product. He holds a CQE (ASQ) and SSBB (ASQ), as well as a provisional QFD Green Belt® (QFD Institute).

 

Akao, Yoji
Keynote A Case Study on the Development of a Folding Bicycle
Dr. Yoji Akao, Ph.D. is a co-founder of QFD methodology, along with Dr. Shigeru Mizuno. He is a recipient of Deming Prize for Individuals, the Best on Quality Award from International Academy for Quality, the inaugural Distinguished Service Medal from the American Society for Quality. He is an author of many published articles and books including the QFD bible, "Quality Function Deployment: Integrating Customer Requirements into Product Design" and "QFD: The Customer-Driven Approach to Quality Planning & Deployment ." Dr. Akao is chairman of the International Council for QFD and the senior advisor to the QFD Institute.

 

Bartlett, Melissa

DREAM/QFD to Re-design Staff Service Excellence at Rutland Regional Medical Center

Ms. Melissa Bartlett is the Patient Relations Coordinator at Rutland Regional Medical Center (RRMC). She started her career at RRMC as a Radiologic Technologist in 1990 and transitioned to Patient Relations in 2007. Ms. Bartlett attended Rutland Regional Medical Center ’s School of Radiology graduating as a Radiologic Technologist in 1990. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration and is a certified QFD Green Belt®.

 

Chan, Catherine Y. P.
QFD-based Curriculum Development Model for Industrial Training

Dr. Catherine Y. P. Chan has a Ph.D. from Institute of Textiles and Clothing at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Her thesis focused on the curriculum planning of vocational education for Hong Kong clothing and textile industry. She was previously a course administrator at the Clothing Industry Training Authority for 8 years. Ms. Catherine Chan is a a QFD Black Belt® and a member of the ISO Working Group 2, Technical Committee 69, Subcommittee 8 for writing the QFD standards.

 

Childs, Darren
DREAM/QFD to Re-design Staff Service Excellence at Rutland Regional Medical Center

Mr. Darren M. Childs began work at Rutland Regional Medical Center (RRMC) in 1994. During this time, he has held a variety of positions with increasing responsibility; he is currently the Vice President of Quality Improvement and a member of the senior leadership team at RRMC. In this role, he is responsible for the organization’s Performance Improvement System and Quality Regulatory Readiness programs among others. His background includes a Bachelor’s Degree from Castleton State College in Castleton , Vermont and a Master’s Degree in Administration from Saint Michael’s College in Colchester , Vermont . Darren has been previously certified as a Quality Manager from the American Society for Quality (ASQ), is a Lean Six Sigma Greenbelt, and a certified QFD Green Belt®.

Mr. Hideaki Haraga is the General Manager of Innovation Advancement Center at Konica Minolta Technology Center, Inc. in Japan. He is a member of QFD R&D subcommittee in JUSE.

 

Herzwurm, Georg
Value-based Pricing as Origin for New and Further Development of IT-Products Usage of Quality Function Deployment and Target Costing for Customer-oriented Pricing

Prof. Dr. Georg Herzwurm is a Distinguished Full Professor and the Chair for Business Administration and Information Systems, namely Business Software at the University of Stuttgart, Germany. Besides his university career he takes an active part in the development of QFD methods. He is founder and speaker of the board of the German QFD Institute. Since 1997 he represents German interests in the International Council for QFD. Prof. Herzwurm is a recipient of 2000 Akao Prize for outstanding contributions to further development and support of QFD. In 2001 he was awarded with the honorary membership in the Iran Institute of Industrial Engineering by Amirkabir University of Technology, Teheran, Iran. His is a certified QFD-Architect conferred by the QFD Institute Deutschland Germany.

Jesso-White, Jill

QFD to Re-design New Physician Orientation and Induction: Connecting New Physicians into a Healthcare Community

Ms. Jill Jesso-White is the Director of Community & Provider Relations at Rutland Regional Medical Center . She joined Rutland Regional in 1996. She holds a BA and a MSA both from St. Michael's College. She is a member of the New England Society of Healthcare Communicators, currently serving on its Board of Directors, and the Society for Healthcare Strategy & Market Development of the American Hospital Association. She successfully completed the Introductory Workshop on QFD and attained her Green Belt in the fall of 2009. She used the QFD methodology for the first time on one of only two organization-wide design/redesign projects and is a true believer in this methodology for gathering the voice of the customer.

 

Johnson, Chad M.
Developing a Church Growth Strategy through QFD, AHP, and Balanced Scorecard Strategy Mapping

Mr. Chad Johnson has been involved with 6Sigma deployment, material development, training and coaching, and project implementation across global TRW sites for several years. He is a TRW certified 6Sigma Master Black Belt and a senior member of the American Society for Quality and holds a QFD Black Belt®. He is currently located at the TRW Automotive Braking Division World Headquarters in Livonia, Michigan USA, where his attentions have been primarily focused on driving Continuous Improvement at the company through the application of QFD, Analytic Hierarchy Process, Stochastic Variation Analysis, Design Optimization, and Design of Experiments. Chad holds a Bachelor of Science degree from General Motors Institute (presently Kettering University) in Mechanical Engineering. He has been a member of the Royal Oak First United Methodist church for 12 years.

 

Kaneko, Noriharu
Prevention of Recurrence and Preventive Measures of Service Quality Problem

Mr. Noriharu Kaneko is founder and executive director of Service Quality Management Ltd., a consultant firm on service quality and QFD. He is also the president of CBM Co., Ltd., a facility cleaning and maintenance business, in Japan. His consulting clients include Japanese automobile parts industry, JUSE, JSA, JICA, AOTS, UN and the World Bank. He is an author of several Japanese service quality books including “Handbook for TQM and QCC” and "Making service work visible and visual". He is a recipient of 2001 Akao Prize.

 

Kapucugil Ikiz, Aysun
Development of Educational Structure for Business Students in Quantitative Methods Area
Ms. Aysun Kapucugil Ikiz holds a B.Sc. in Statistics and Econometrics, a M.Sc. in Quantitative Methods and Management Science, and a PhD in Business Administration from Dokuz Eylul University in Turkey. She is currently a research assistant there. Besides her university career she took an active part in the development of regional quality movements by supporting Izmir KalDer-Turkish Society for Quality and attending the quality study groups. She was a member of Turkish Society for Quality between 2001 and 2006. On behalf of Dokuz Eylul University Faculty of Business, she represents Turkish interests in the International Council for QFD since 2004. She has a QFD Green Belt® certificate and was the recipient of the 2006 Akao Scholarship for QFD.

Ms. Constanze Kolbe majored in production engineering and graduated from Brandenburg University of Technology, Cottbus in Germany with a Diploma in industrial engineering. Since 2008, she has been research assistant at the Chair of Quality Engineering, Dortmund University of Technology.

QFD to Re-design New Physician Orientation and Induction: Connecting New Physicians into a Healthcare Community

Ms. Kathy Letendre has been with Rutland Regional Medical Center (RRMC) since 1998. During this time, she has held a variety of positions with increasing responsibility. She is currently the Vice President of Planning & Organizational Excellence. Kathy oversees the organization's planning system and performance review process, as well as its marketing and physician relations functions. Kathy has played a lead role in facilitating the organization's transformation journey using the framework of the Baldrige Criteria. Her background includes a Bachelor’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering from Duke University and a Master’s Degree in Health Services Administration from the University of Michigan . Kathy has been previously certified as a Quality Manager from the American Society for Quality (ASQ), is an advisory member to the Vermont Council for Quality, and a certified QFD Green Belt®.

 

Lertchanyakul, Paweena
The Process of New Product Development to Assure Customer Satisfaction and Create New Business Opportunity in Chemical Industry

Ms.Paweena Lertchanyakul has a M.S. degree in Chemical Technology, a B.S.degree in Chemical Engineering, from Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. She is a researcher at SCG Chemicals in Thailand, in the fields of polymer synthesis, polymer processing, experimental and basic process design, feasibility study and economic evaluation and searching potential applications for new products.

 

Mautsch, Lars Oliver
Curriculum Planning for Education in Enterprise Resource Planning Systems

Mr. Lars Oliver Mautsch holds a Master’s degree in Information Systems from the Universities of Stuttgart and Hohenheim, Germany. In 2008 he received the Akao Scholarship for QFD for his student paper “Customer-oriented development of Business Information Systems combining SOA and SPL." Since then he is researcher and senior lecturer at the department of Information Systems, esp. Business Software of Prof. Dr. Georg Herzwurm at the University of Stuttgart. Lars is Certified QFD Facilitator conferred by the QFD Institute Deutschland Germany e. V.

 

Mazur, Glenn H.
Keynote Integrating QFD into Phase-Gates Product Design

Mr. Glenn H. Mazur has been active in QFD since its inception in North America, and has worked extensively with the founders of QFD on their teaching and consulting visits from Japan. He is a leader in the application of QFD to service industries and consumer products, conducts advanced QFD research, and is the Conference Chair for the annual North American Symposium on Quality Function Deployment. Glenn is the Executive Director of the QFD Institute and International Council for QFD. He is the President of Japan Business Consultants Ltd. and was Adjunct Lecturer on TQM at the University of Michigan College of Engineering for over 10 years. Glenn is a senior member of the American Society for Quality and the Japanese Society for Quality Control. He is a certified QFD Red Belt® and QFD-Architekt by QFD Institut Deutschland. Earlier this year, he was inducted as the 57th Academician for International Academy for Quality. He is the convenor of the ISO Working Group 2 of the Technical Committee 69, Subcommittee 8 to write the international standard for QFD.

 

Miguel, Paulo Cauchick
A Critical Analysis of QFD Application in Brazil after 20 Years of Its Introduction

Prof. Paulo Cauchick Miguel holds a Ph.D. from the University of Birmingham, UK and is one of the co-founders of QFD and New Product Development Institute in Brazil. He has published various articles on QFD at international journals. His previous industrial and academic experience also includes working as manufacturing engineer for automotive companies in Brazil and guest research at Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award at NIST in the USA.

 

Mitchell, David
The Customer's Way: Know what to do because you know why you do it

David Mitchell received a BSE from the United States Military Academy, West point, NY and a MBA-Operation from the University of Georgia. He was a Program/Project engineer (PPE) with Lockheed Martin (1984-1997) and a program manager at Square D (1997-2003). In 1999 his TSSAM team won Schneider North America’s Dynamic Quality Team Award and he was selected as “National Person Who Makes a Difference”. Currently he is the Reliability Manager for Electrical Assemblies in the Americas at Eaton Corporation after returning from a 4 year assignment in the Netherlands as the Operational Excellence Manager for Eaton Mainland Europe. He’s ASQ certified as a Six Sigma black belt, and he’s a Boothroyd and Dewhurst certified DFMA trainer.

Mr. Hiroyuki Okamoto is currently Senior Specialist of Engineering Process Innovation Planning Center at Ricoh Company in Japan. His interest focuses on the technique of sharing knowledge and information.

 

Pietsch, Wolfram
Taming IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) with QFD

Dr. Wolfram Pietsch is serving as a senior professor in Business and Information Management at the Aachen University of Applied Sciences in Germany. He earned a doctoral degree in software project management. He has been a consultant to several companies in Germany, Austria and Switzerland on quality and process management as a senior consultant for ExperTeam AG for a decade. He is co-founder and a board member of the QFD-Institut Deutschland and has been pioneering the introduction, adaptation and enrichment of QFD in business and research since the early nineties. His major concern is the employment and integration of QFD for business management, i.e. Project Management, Marketing and Strategic Planning and its tailoring for different industry branches. Dr. Pietsch received the Akao Price in 2009 for his contribution to the advancement of QFD.

Refflinghaus, Robert
A Holistic Model for Structuring requirements Considering the Degree of Requirements’ Fulfillment and Its Implementation for Data Processing

Dr. Robert Refflinghaus majored in technical management, graduated from the University of Dortmund with a master degree in mechanical engineering and received a Ph.D. at the chair of quality engineering in Dortmund. Since 2000, he has been in charge of the department of quality management at the chair of quality engineering of the Dortmund University of Technology. In 2002, he became senior engineer and assistant of Prof. Crostack. In 2008, he habilitated at the Dortmund University of Technology and received the venia legendi for "methods and techniques of quality management".

 

Schockert, Sixten
QFD for Planning the Marketing Mix

Mr. Sixten Schockert holds a Master’s degree in Information Systems from the University of Cologne, Germany. From 1996– 2002 he was a researcher and lecturer at the department of information systems, system development of Prof. Dr. Werner Mellis at the University of Cologne. Since 2003 he has been a researcher and lecturer at the department of Information Systems, namely Business Software, of Prof. Dr. Georg Herzwurm at the Universität Stuttgart. Mr. Schockert is a founding member and board member of the QFD Institute Deutschland. He is working outside the university as a trainer and consultant, especially for Software Engineering, customer oriented software development, and QFD and project management. Mr. Schockert is co-author of many publications in the area of software management and development especially Software Quality Function Deployment. He is currently working on his Ph.D. thesis on the identification of well-founded design recommendations in Requirements Engineering. Sixten is a Certified QFD-Architect conferred by the QFD-Institute Germany e. V.

 

Serino, Domenic

DREAM/QFD to Re-design Staff Service Excellence at Rutland Regional Medical Center

Mr. Domenic M. Serino is the Executive Director of the Rutland Health Foundation (RHF) which serves as the fundraising entity for Rutland Regional Medical Center (RRMC). Mr. Serino joined RHF in 2003 and is responsible for all of the philanthropic activities of the organization. He also serves as a member of the senior leadership team at RRMC. Prior to that Mr. Serino served as the Chief Development Officer at the University of Connecticut Health Center; he also served as Vice President of Development and Community Relations at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown Connecticut . He served as chair of the Boys and Girls Club of Rutland County and has been involved with various other civic organizations. Mr. Serino is a graduate of the University of Vermont and is a certified fundraising executive (CFRE).

 

Stansfield, Kim
Complex IT Systems Design Using Both Traditional QFD and Blitz QFD®

Dr. Kim Stansfield, Ph.D. has applied traditional QFD and associated methods in the design of manufacturing systems, Systematic R&D services, automotive and aerospace control systems and organizational redesign since 1990. In 2001 he became a lead consultant specializing in Design For Six Sigma methods. In 2003 he moved to work on IT Systems Design and Development where he worked with the Jeff Cole on implementing QFD & DFSS methods in the design and development of Public Sector IT Systems. In 2007 he joined CSC Computer Sciences Ltd. In 2008 he began to adopt Modern/ Blitz QFD methods as a Modern QFD Green Belt®. Dr. Stansfield is a QFD Black Belt® and a member of the ISO Working Group 2, Technical Committee 69, Subcommittee 8 for writing the QFD standards.

 

Stover, Shannon

DREAM/QFD to Re-design Staff Service Excellence at Rutland Regional Medical Center

Ms. Shannon B. Stover is the Director of Food and Nutrition Services at Rutland Regional Medical Center . She is a member of the Rutland Nutrition Coalition, Association for Healthcare Food Service, American Dietetic Association, and on the Board for the Vermont Dietetic Association. Mrs. Stover is a certified instructor and proctor for Serve Safe, and holds a certificate in International Food Laws and Regulations from Michigan State University . She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics and a Masters of Science in Food Safety and Toxicology from Michigan State University . Ms. Stover attended SUNY College of Oneonta for her Dietetic Internship and is a Registered Dietitian. She is a Certified QFD green Belt®.
