The 13th
International & 19th North American Symposium on QFD
as well as QFD Certificate Courses concluded successfully
recently.
The attendees
from Brazil, Canada, China, Ecuador, Germany, Hong Kong,
Japan, Mexico, The Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, and
USA met in historic Williamsburg, learning QFD application
examples from various industries and countries, recent QFD
research, examples of traditional House of Quality QFD as well
as Modern, lean QFD methods, and most importantly exchanging
ideas, networking, and learning from each other.

Highlights included keynote addresses on QFD
and Knowledge Management (Dr. Yoji Akao),
Analytic Hierarchy / Analytic Network Process
(Dr. Thomas Saaty), and Revolution in Quality
(Glenn Mazur), AHP tutorial (Richard Zultner),
GTI tutorial (Greg Yezersky), and a special talk
by the 3rd president of the U.S. and colonial
thought leader Thomas Jefferson.
A living methodology, QFD
continues to evolve today. This was reflected by this year's
presentation topics which
included aerospace, AHP, education, government and public
project, corporate strategy and innovation in healthcare
planning, product lifecycle management, logistic planning,
process industry, IT, tele-communication, and integration of
various quality methodologies. Expert
Choice provided
additional tools to make attendees' QFD more successful with
their software exhibit. The
transactions
from this symposium will be made available to the public in
April 2008.
The annual
event was also an opportunity
for state-of-the-art QFD learning, including the 2-day QFD
Green Belt® Certificate Course, 5-day advanced QFD Black
Belt® Certificate Course, 1-day QFD Black Belt® Update
Course, and 1/2 day QFD Green Belt® Update Course.
Congratulations to everyone who have successfully completed
these demanding programs.
This Symposium
began in 1989 as a way for industry professionals and
academics to exchange ideas and learn from each other in a
supportive atmosphere. Over the years, this has helped many
businesses keep innovative spirit and leadership in both
good times and bad.
We
invite you to mark your calendar now for 2008 so you can
attend or even present next year. Paper submissions from all
countries are welcome.
