What We Do

The QFD Institute is a single most-dedicated QFD education and research organization in the world.

Among services and activities we do are:

Research in leading edge design and quality concepts and bringing the new ideas together to the public;
Research in the state-of-art QFD teaching methods including presentation of the most up-to-date best QFD practices and tools;
Public QFD forum commonly known as the Symposia on QFD, annually in North America where the latest QFD case studies and research are presented and QFD dialogues are encouraged;
Encourage QFD study and learning in higher education through Akao Scholarship for QFD and QFD Symposium Scholarship for students;
QFD training of all proficiency levels at certificate levels including in-house custom QFD training and development of custom-tailored QFD process and training manuals, as well as Public QFD Courses;

Workshops and tutorials on relevant methods at non-certificate levels; and

Publication of QFD resources including QFD Symposia Proceedings, free e-newsletters; and

Coordination of QFD events worldwide including the International Symposium on QFD through the International Council on QFD and administration of Akao Prize® and Akao Scholarship for QFD.

QFD Symposium Scholarship

The QFD Institute is an independent not-for-profit organization incorporated in Michigan USA. Our research and training activities are conducted both in the U.S. and overseas.

The QFD Institute is the sole administrator of the International QFD Belt® Certificate program, the only QFD curriculum authorized by Dr. Yoji Akao (founder of QFD) outside Japan. This includes QFD Green Belt®, QFD Black Belt®, QFD Master Black Belt®, and QFD Grand Master Black Belt®, etc. The status of a QFD Belt® Certificate holder may be verified through the QFD Institute office.

The QFD Institute may work in cooperation with groups that promote QFD and other quality methods. This includes hosting an International Symposium on QFD (ISQFD) in coordination with the member countries of International Council for QFD (ICQFD).

However, we do not have a foreign branch and thus we are not directly affiliated with any overseas groups even if they might present you a similar sounding name.
